Frequently asked questions
Can I leave out the cover page?+
Yes. “From page” sets where numbering begins, and “First number” sets which number appears there. That way the first page after the cover carries the 1.
Which formats are there?+
“3”, “Page 3”, “Page 3 of 12” and “3 / 12”. For case files there is also Bates numbering such as “CASE-000125”, with your own prefix and a fixed number of digits.
Is my file uploaded?+
No. The PDF is opened, numbered and exported in your browser and never leaves your device.
Are the numbers right on landscape pages?+
Yes. Page numbers sit the way the page appears when reading, rotated pages included.
I have several PDFs. How do I number them continuously?+
Combine the files into one PDF with “Merge PDF” first, then number the finished PDF.
What does it cost?+
Nothing. Tools that run in your browser are always free and need no account.

Why page numbers
In a document without page numbers, nobody notices when a page is missing, and on the phone it is hard to say which passage you mean. Contracts with annexes, theses, minutes and papers for authorities are therefore usually numbered. Often, though, a PDF is put together from several sources or comes from a scan, and the numbers are missing. Here you add them afterwards.
Exactly the way you need it
- Position: any of six positions, top or bottom, left, centre or right.
- Format: with or without “Page”, with or without the total.
- Range: from one page to another, for example without the cover and appendix.
- First number: any number, for example when the document is part of a larger one.
Preview before export
The preview shows every page as it will be exported. If something is off, change the setting before you save the result. If you like, add a watermark such as “DRAFT” in the same step.
