Frequently asked questions
Can you crack a forgotten password?+
No. The tool is for files whose password you know. We cannot find out a forgotten password.
What happens with a wrong password?+
You see a message and can try again right away without uploading the file again. A failed operation is not charged.
Do you store my password?+
No. The password is sent to our server for this operation only, never stored in a database or a log, and discarded within minutes at the latest.
The file opens without a password but will not print. Does this help?+
Yes. Leave the field empty: the locks are lifted as long as the file has no password to open.
What does it cost?+
Twenty operations a month are free, a hundred with an account. If an operation fails, nothing is charged.
May I unlock any PDF?+
Only unlock files that belong to you or whose password you received legitimately, such as your own bank statements.
Do I need an account?+
No. Unlocking works without signing in, for PDFs up to 100 MB, and counts as one operation from your free monthly allowance.

When “Unlock PDF” helps
A bank statement you have to open with a password every time, a form that cannot be filled in, a document you want to merge or sign: while a file is encrypted, most tools cannot edit it. With the password you know, it becomes an ordinary PDF.
