Frequently asked questions
How much smaller does the file get?+
Scanned documents usually shrink a lot, often by 60–90 %. Text documents less. If a file cannot get smaller, you get it back unchanged – never larger.
Does the text lose quality?+
No. Text stays sharp; only images are recompressed and resized.
Which level should I choose?+
“Balanced” suits email attachments. “Light” is for documents that will be printed. “Strong” is for upload forms with a tight limit; images then become visibly softer.
Why a server?+
Good compression needs tools that do not run in the browser. The file is processed in the EU and deleted after 60 minutes, at once with “Delete now”.
What does it cost?+
Twenty operations a month are free, a hundred with an account. A failed operation costs nothing.
How large can the file be?+
Up to 100 MB per PDF. Split larger files first with “Split PDF”, which runs in your browser.
Do I need an account?+

When “Compress PDF” helps
A scanned contract of twenty pages easily reaches 50 MB – too big for most mailboxes and upload forms. It is usually the images: scanners store each page as a high-resolution photo. “Compress PDF” scales these images down to a sensible resolution and recompresses them. The text stays as it is.
Three levels
- Light: images up to 300 dpi, hardly any visible difference. For documents that will be printed.
- Balanced: images up to 150 dpi. For email attachments; images stay clearly readable.
- Strong: images up to 72 dpi and compressed harder. For tight upload limits.
Never larger than before
Some PDFs are already stored optimally. Then we try a second way, and if that does not help either, you get your file back unchanged. The result shows the size before and after, with a preview of the first page.
