Frequently asked questions
How small can the file get?+
It depends on the content. Scanned pages and photos usually shrink a lot; plain text documents hardly at all, because there is little to save. If a file cannot get smaller, you get it back unchanged.
My file is still too large after “Strong”. What now?+
Split the PDF into two files with “Split PDF”, or delete pages the recipient does not need with “Organize pages”. Both run in your browser and are free.
Why does this run on a server?+
Good compression needs tools that do not run in the browser. The file is processed in the EU and deleted after 60 minutes at the latest, at once with “Delete now” on the result.
What does it cost?+
One operation per file from your free monthly allowance, with or without an account. The exact numbers are on the pricing page. A failed operation costs nothing.
Does the text stay readable?+
Yes. Text stays sharp and searchable; only images are recompressed and resized.

When the file will not go through
Many mailboxes only accept attachments up to a certain size, and job portals and government forms often set even tighter limits. A scanned contract or a photo report quickly goes over. Reducing the size scales the images in the PDF down to a sensible resolution and stores them more efficiently. Text, tables and vector graphics stay as they are.
Which level?
- Light: hardly any visible difference, for documents that will be printed.
- Balanced: the right choice for most email attachments.
- Strong: for very tight limits; images become visibly softer, text stays sharp.
You see the size before and after and a preview before you download. If the result does not fit, try another level.
Never larger
Some PDFs are already stored optimally. Then we try a second way, and if that does not help either, you get your file back unchanged – never larger than before.
